Screencast , File Sharing 1 Comment »
Lilac Writer allows you to upload and attach your MP3 demos to any of your lyric projects. You can upload final mixes and other types of media files or even link to YouTube videos! You can refer to files while writing or rewriting your lyrics. All file content is available in the sidebar. Watch this short screecast to learn more about File Upload feature.

New Lilac Writer Feature: Add YouTube Content

New Feature , File Sharing No Comments »

You can now add YouTube content to the Files tab in your lyric projects!

Open any of your Lyrics and click the Files tab.

You will find a new link "Add YouTube Content".

You can put in the YouTube ID and a description. Every YouTube video has an ID. For instance this Eric Clapton video.

The idea is at the end of the address. In this case, it is "fX5USg8_1gA".

After you have the YouTube ID of the video you want to link to, click "Add YouTube Content" on the files tab. Copy in the YouTube ID and type in a description if you like.

Click the Add YouTube Content button.

The video will be right there on the files page! You can click play and watch it from there. This is a great way to add reference video or even your demos recorded on YouTube into your Lilac Writer project.

You can even reference the video form the sidebar while writing your song!

Note: Some YouTube videos won't play when linked like this if the owner doesn't allow it. For those you can click the YouTube icon to watching right on the YouTube site.

This is a great new feature with lots of uses. Many songs start by referencing artists or songs and YouTube can be a great resource. It is also pretty easy to record audio and video directly into YouTube which can be great for adding your own content!

This is another great feature that comes from all the feed back we have received from the beta team!

Happy Songwriting!

Music AND Lyrics!

The "Files tab" has been part of Lilac Writer from the start. It is great to be able to attach mp3 files of an early demo, song idea, or even a finished mix. If you are doing song analysis (Hit Hacking!) you might want to attach an MP3 of the tune to your lyric project.

We have recently turned on the Files tab for all the beta users. You can now upload mp3 files and many other kinds of files that you might need to reference during songwriting or co-writing.

Uploading couldn't be much easier:

1. Go to the Files tab for your lyric project

2. Click Browse... to locate the file to upload

3. Type in a description of the file in the Description area if you like.

4. Then click the Upload file button

Uploading will take from several seconds to a few minutes depending on your connection speed and file size.

The list of uploaded files is shown with the newest at the top just below the upload section of the Files tab.

You can also see the files in the Sidebar.

If you upload MP3 files, you can use the embedded MP3 player to play your songs right inside the Lilac Writer.

While MP3 files are the obvious type of file to upload, you can also upload images and other media up to 6MB per file.

This feature is great for collaborating but is also great for keeping your catalog organized. If you need to quickly put together a live set, you can share the lyrics along with MP3s and any other notes with your musicians easily.

We hope you enjoy using files in your songwriting projects. After all, songs are music AND lyric!

Happy Songwriting!
